Commentary:
The United States had bombed Iran.  Now, they brokered peace between Iran and Israel.  It is hard to believe that one will readily accept a handshake from someone who has just stomped you on the foot.  Perhaps Iran is out of options. Perhaps the country is biding time to rebuild its nuclear capability.  Whatever it is, this is certainly not the end of things to come.

Interestingly, investors shook off the spectre of Trump's looming tariffs - we are approaching the pause deadline of 9 July - as well as the ongoing geopolitical tensions, and piled more money into stocks.  The U.S. equity indices are hitting record high once more.  The S&P 500 Index closed at 6,204.95, up 4.96 percent MoM.  The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed at 44,094.77, up 4.32 percent MoM.  The tech-heavy Nasdaq 100 Index closed at 22,679.01, up 6.27 percent MoM.  Even our local Straits Times Index is on the rise, closing at 3,964.29, up 1.79 percent MoM.

It is as if none of the chaos happened during the first half of 2025.

I took advantage of the price weakness to build my position in Riverstone Holdings, having bought another 25,900 shares.  My CDP portfolio has crossed the half-million-dollar mark, which is a milestone for me.  I still have a long way to go, before I can rest and enjoy a comfortable dividend income stream.  I will continue to build my portfolios when the opportunity arises.

My family came back from an overseas holiday in Japan.  We visited Kyoto and Osaka.  I was impressed with the Nijō Castle, as well as Kiyomizu-dera, a Buddhist temple in Kyoto.  We also visited Hirakata Park, which is a lesser-known Japanese amusement park in Osaka.  More importantly, we enjoyed the wonderful Japanese cuisine - ramen, Wagyu beef, gyu-don, tempura and more.  The eight-day trip was a much welcomed break from work for me.

A new school term has started again.  It is back to the usual routine for my wife and I, where we visit the library over the weekend while waiting for our kids to finish their tuition and enrichment classes.  The topic of retirement has come up again, as my wife is feeling the stress from her current job.  My wife has more than ample savings to retire now, but she feels she can still contribute to her employer for a few more years.  We give ourselves a maximum age of 55 years old to leave the workforce permanently.  That should leave us with sufficient health, time and money to travel and see the world as a couple, while our kids are old enough to take care of themselves.

Till next time!
